Dropping temperatures outside mean warm hearts here in Phoenixville.
As our community finally enjoys the cooler temperatures of autumn, at Ann's Heart we are already gearing up for a new season of the Code Blue Overnight Emergency Warming Center. The Center is open from mid-November through mid-April from 8PM to 8AM, seven days a week. Supported by one paid staff member and up to two volunteers per shift each night, the Center remains open all winter, providing safe, warm space for our neighbors in need.
Especially with Phoenixville's recent prosperity, you may not realize that a significant number of our vulnerable neighbors count on this program for overnight shelter when temperatures drop to dangerously cold levels. Last year 65 people were served by the program, and since our opening, 238 individuals have come to stay at our Center.
Our Code Blue program serves men, women, and families from Phoenixville and immediately surrounding areas. This generally means anyone from Phoenixville Borough and our neighboring townships. The Center can accommodate up to 16 individuals each night and accepts guests on a first come, first serve basis.
The Center has both shower and laundry facilities for guest use and provides hot and cold beverages, simple meals, and access to toiletries and other immediate needs.
To provide the needed resources to continue this vital program, we are inviting you to help us by donating, volunteering, or participating in our 2nd annual Phoenixville Bed Races fundraiser on Saturday, November 2nd, 2019 from 11AM to 2PM in Reeves Park.
Haven't heard about the Phoenixville Bed Races?? This super fun, family-friendly event raises funds and awareness for our shelter and two other Phoenixville area organizations that provide shelter for our neighbors in need. Whether you are racing or spectating, come join us on November 2nd to help support our organizations as we work to make sure that no one in our community is without a bed to sleep in.
