The Code Blue Center is now closed for the 2020-21 season. We will reopen in November of 2021.

If you or someone you know are experiencing homelessness please call 2-1-1 for shelter.

Volunteer at Code Blue

While the Code Blue Center employs four Shift Managers to oversee the operations of the Center between the hours of 8 PM and 8 AM, our program runs on the amazing talents and energy provided by over 100 committed volunteers. We could not run this program without the support of these amazing individuals who donate their time to clean, organize, shop, fold linens during the day or support our shift managers in the evening and morning hours.

Thank you!

Volunteer Shifts

The Center utilizes volunteers to support of Shift Managers from November through April during evening and morning shifts. These volunteers provide our staff with extra hands to set up the Center for the evening, help serve guests as they arrive, and assist with checkout in the morning. Most often volunteers help to make our center warm and welcoming by sharing a cup of coffee or simply listening to our guests. These volunteer shifts are for adults (18 or older) only.

Evening Shift - 7:45PM to 10:00PM
Morning Shift - 6:45AM to 8:15AM

Volunteer Teams

It takes a lot of hands to keep our Code Blue Center running. Outside of Code Blue hours, several volunteer teams work to ensure that our Center is clean, stocked, organized, and prepared for each evening's opening. Do you have time to volunteer during the day-time hours during the week or on weekends? A volunteer team might be perfect for you!

Volunteer Teams:

  • Cleaning Teams (available 2 days a week)
  • Shopping Team
  • Linen Prep Team
  • Inventory Team
  • Holiday Prep Team

What to Expect

Is this your first time volunteering with Code Blue? Are you returning and curious about if things will be different than last year? We have put together a quick Volunteer Orientation Presentation and Volunteer Handbook for you to review before your first time volunteering this season. Please take a moment to review both prior to your first shift.

Have Questions?

Do you have questions or want to learn about our volunteer teams that handle volunteer operations outside of Code Blue hours?
Email our Volunteer Coordinator.

Need a Buddy?

Sometimes the best way to start something new it is with a buddy. First time volunteers can opt to have someone to volunteer with them the first time (or two) at the Center. Someone to show you around, answer your questions, or show you how to get there. A few of our veteran volunteers have offered to be volunteer "buddies"! If you would like someone to join you on your first volunteer shift, simply email with your name, days and times you would like to volunteer, and how best to contact you. One of our volunteer buddies will email you back and schedule a time to join you at the Center.

Want to be a "buddy"? Email us to find out how.

Tell a Friend

Our program relies on the support of volunteers. Please help spread the word to your friends, co-workers, and community about our program. Anyone interested in volunteering can sign up here.

How Are We Doing?

We want to make sure that the Code Blue Center is providing a safe and welcoming environment for not only our guests, but our volunteers and staff as well. After your first volunteer shift you will receive a short survey to tell us how it went and what we can do to improve your experience. If at any time you have concerns about your experience or saw something that you think we should know about, please report it to us.
